Support

This is the support and usage guide for PicMason. If you run into an issue, check the FAQ below first; if it remains unresolved, feel free to reach us by email.

1. System Requirements

macOS 15.2 or later.

Supports Apple Silicon (M-series) and Intel chips.

2. Supported Formats

Import: JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, HEIF, AVIF, TIFF, BMP, GIF, PPM.

Export: JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, TIFF, BMP, GIF, AVIF. When the system's ImageIO cannot encode a format, that option is hidden automatically.

3. Privacy and Metadata

PicMason strips image EXIF metadata (including GPS location and camera information) by default; you can choose to keep the original EXIF in Settings.

WebP encoding is handled by libwebp, which currently cannot write EXIF or other metadata.

4. Capabilities

Batch pipeline: process many images at once with parallel batches, per-file progress, estimated time, and cancellation.

Resizing uses Lanczos resampling. Target-size compression adjusts quality for lossy formats and flags results that cannot meet the target.

Existing output files are skipped by default, so you can rerun an interrupted batch. You can turn this setting off.

5. Known Limitations

Animated GIFs are currently processed as their first frame only.

AVIF export depends on system ImageIO and may be unavailable on some systems (the option is hidden automatically).

WebP output cannot preserve EXIF metadata.

The {size} placeholder in the naming template is not supported yet.

6. Data and Privacy

All processing happens locally — images are never uploaded to any server.

Settings, history, and templates are stored inside the app sandbox and never leave your device. See the Privacy Policy for details.

7. FAQ

Q: Do my images leave my device?

A: No. Everything is processed locally; nothing is uploaded or stored on any server.

Q: How do I keep or strip EXIF?

A: Toggle “Keep original EXIF” in Settings. It is stripped by default.

Q: Why did target-size compression miss the target?

A: The target-size setting does not apply to lossless formats. Lossy output may still exceed the target at the minimum quality; the result shows whether the target was met.

Q: How does resume work?

A: Existing output files are skipped by default when you rerun the same batch. If you turned this setting off, enable it in Settings first.
